The food was SO good and service was fast. We got a table as soon as we walked in and this place was packed.
I got the kabob plate. My husband got fish and we both loved our food.
The hummus was so smooth and creamy! -

Visiting from Bakersfield, California, USA we wanted to try this wonderful place hidden in this "back alley". Chicken brochettes are tender, juicy and flavorful. The pita and hummus were delicious. The hip trendy atmosphere on this street restaurant is perfect to enjoy a rosé glass of wine. Service was friendly, nice and attentive. Definitely coming back!

Tough one to give a fair rating ... I've been to Sofra before at this and other locations and only remember the food being tasty and good value. Last night's visit was overshadowed by everything but the food.
When we arrived (it must have been around 10) the place was still buzzing, both inside and outdoors. We opted to be seated indoors as it was dark and getting chilly. Once seated we were ignored by staff, not even given a menu. This eventually arrived but differed from the offers advertised on a board outside. We were given the bigger "healthy menu" with a choice of 10 dishes at £10.95 before or £14.95 after 6pm which includes actual descriptions of the dishes. It was too late for a full-on feast and we were drawn in by the £7.95 for one course (£10.95 for two) offer. This menu is much smaller, both in size as in choice, but provides good value.
We both opted for the main course mezze which consits of 9 items arranged on a plate. This looked like quite a mean portion to start with but turned out to be rather filling. They make a big deal about the free hummus and bread which was a welcome addition (no refills, mind).
While we were enjoying our food staff started to clear the tables around us. Changing the linen indoors was relatively painless to watch as it was done quietly. But the guy folding up the chairs and tables outside seemed to be on a mission to make our conversation impossible.
It took a while to attract our waitress' attention to have a look at the dessert options. These were just a list of Turkish words which meant nothing without the main menu. It took ages to get a chance to ask for more information, just to be told that most options were no longer available since the kitchen was closed. OK, we can take a hint, paid and left.
There are laminated notes on all walls, with the same message also appearing in the menus, with some ramblings by the owner. They didn't make all that much sense. Yes, we probably did get our complimentary hummus and bread within 2 minutes (if we are generous and don't start the countdown until after we'd actually been given our menus - probably 10 minutes in, we had both been downstairs to inspect the lacklustre facilities ...) and drinks within 5 minutes, but this does not amout to good service.
And, no, I am not writing my complaints to them directly, opting for a review here instead. -

4 stars for flavour variety and service. Not haute cuisine but great when the sun is shining. Glass of rose. Lots of meze. Great humus. Simple grilled meat rice and salad as a main course. V good value set lunch £13.
